CMAS

SeaLandAire designed and build a full 6 Degree-of Freedom (DOF) propulsion and steering tail-cone assembly, navigation module with required software for a new A-size mobile training target.  The propulsion cone (4.87” in diameter and 9” long) houses a brushless DC motor, 4 RC servos, 3 PCBs, and the appropriate static and dynamic seals to allow the unit to function to depths of several hundred feet of water.

A functional mechanical prototype was completed on a very compressed schedule and within budget by providing a simultaneous development of both hardware and software. Tests demonstrated a fully functional propulsion system with steering control, the associated control electronics, control firmware, PC user interface software and propulsion hardware. Performance tests demonstrated the ability of the CMAS vehicle to follow a preprogrammed navigation path at the commanded speed and depth.
